Judging

Overall, the judging process will take a holistic approach to evaluating each wine, looking at everything from taste to branding to availability. This ensures that the wines that receive recognition are not only delectable and delicious but also offer exceptional value to consumers

The Judging Process

All products go through a blind tasting process, meaning it is decanted and served in neutral vessels to ensure that the judges aren’t aware of the origin of the final product being tested and aren’t influenced in their adjudication process by the appearance of the packaging except of course for the packaging/labeling category

Awards:

How our awards are graded:
  1. Platinum: 95 points or higher
  2. Gold: 85 to 94 points
  3. Silver: 75 to 84 points
No participant awards are given

Incorrect entries are corrected, removed or if necessary- re-tasted by another panel of judges

The Judging Criteria

Branded Packaging

Each wine is evaluated on the uniqueness and creativity of its branding, including label design, bottle shape, and bottle cap

Taste

Our panel of judges will taste each wine to evaluate its flavour profile and determine if it's enjoyable to drink. Judges will pay particular attention to the sweetness or peppery notes of the wine and evaluate if it enhances the overall drinking experience

Price

The price point of each wine is evaluated, looking for affordability and exceptional value. Wines that offer great taste and quality for an affordable price will be given a higher score

Aftertaste

Judges will evaluate the aftertaste of each wine, noting if it leaves a desirable or undesirable flavour in the mouth. The lingering flavour will be evaluated, and judges will determine if it enhances or detracts from the overall drinking experience

Aroma

As the aroma of each wine needs to complement the flavour profile, this is one of the judges criteria. Notes of Aromas such as grass, oak, berries, and minerals will be evaluated

Color

The color of each wine will be taking into account by the judges, noting its hue and saturation. They will evaluate the wine's color based on what it evokes and how it relates to the wine's overall taste profile

Marketing

Each wine will be evaluated on its marketing strategy and the effectiveness of its advertising campaigns. Judges will review printed adverts and wall displays to determine how well they communicate the wine's qualities and value

Availability

Finally, Judges will evaluate the wine's availability, noting if it is widely available in brick-and-mortar shops or online. Wines that are readily available to consumers will be given a higher score
